Sub-Genre consulted with Zero Point Zero - known for creating the Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and Mind of a Chef series, among others - for over five years. Sub-Genre consulted on the distribution and marketing of four feature films, helping with film festivals, events and film sales, and also assisted with all film pitches to brands for brand funded film projects. The relationship began when Sub-Genre helped broker a sponsorship between ZPZ and Sub-Genre clients Yeti Coolers and Sonos.

Fries! The Movie

The feature-length documentary FRIES! The Movie explores every grease-stained, deliciously salty, and the oft-overlooked crinkle of the french fry. FRIES! takes us on a journey around the world – from the origin of the potato in Peru, through the humble yet highly contested early history of the fry in France, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States – and dives into the culinary traditions transformed over time, the deepest and darkest controversies, and the people that love them.  

Sub- Genre helped arrange the film's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. FRIES! will be distributed on a major SVOD platform in late 2021.

Wasted: The Story of Food Waste

Wasted! The Story of Food Waste aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle, and eat food. Through the the eyes of chef-heroes like Bourdain, Dan Barber, Mario Batali, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien, audiences will see how the world’s most influential chefs make the most of every kind of food, transforming what most people consider scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system. WASTED! exposes the criminality of food waste and how it’s directly contributing to climate change and shows us how each of us can make small changes – all of them delicious – to solve one of the greatest problems of the 21st Century.

Sub-Genre assisted with the film's premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, before a multi-city festival tour, and then distribution via CNN Films and Hulu.

STARS IN THE SKY: A Hunting Story is an examination of the lives of American hunters and their sometimes complicated relationship to our environment, presented as an honest exploration of the controversies, emotions, and traditions inherent to this most primal human activity. The latest feature documentary from the award-winning team at ZPZ Films and directed by acclaimed author Steven Rinella.

Fermented

In the feature-length documentary Fermented, author and chef Edward Lee goes on a journey to understand how the ancient process of fermentation is used in modern cuisine both at home and abroad. The culinary world has labeled fermentation as the hottest food trend at the moment, and this film stands as point of entry into the deep dark world of beautiful rot, and what it means to humankind.

Sub-Genre assisted with the film's premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, as well as multiple film and food festivals, before its distribution via digital channels.

Sonos: Potluck Playlist

The Mind of a Chef combines cooking, travel, history, humor, art and science into a cinematic journey, each episode capturing another glorious flicker from the mind of its subject and focusing on what it truly means to cook, think, create and live in the food-obsessed world that is The Mind of a Chef
