Pilot Program - BIPOC Filmmakers
|
|
As I mentioned in a past newsletter, I recently worked with some BFA members to launch a pilot project for what will hopefully become an ongoing effort to share projects among different brand, foundation and other funders of social impact media. For the pilot, I reached out to multiple nonprofit groups, mainly those run by and for BIPOC filmmakers, asking them to curate a selection of great projects in need of financial, marketing and/or impact support.
The first batch of projects have been submitted. We currently have just about a dozen projects, with a mix of documentaries, long form, short form and episodic content. We also have requests for sponsorship/support of organizations. Several organizations and filmmakers responded with a request for an extension of the deadline, so I am collecting more proposals over the next few weeks and will send out another round of projects at that time.
To make things easy, we developed a template that filmmakers could use to make a one-three slide deck in the program of their choice. I have collected these PDF's and PPTs in a Dropbox folder which I can share with any BFA member, friend, or any colleagues of BFA members. There is no obligation to fund or support any of these projects. If anyone finds a project to be compelling, and you think you can possibly support the filmmakers through your organization, I will make an introduction upon request. It is expected that most organizations will have a process for project review, or even a grant application process. The hope is just to make an intro to some worthy projects. Of course, the "curating" organizations could also use support, and these have been listed on each slide deck as well.
If you would like to receive access to this shared Dropbox folder, please email me (Brian Newman), and I'll send you the link. This project is limited to organizations that have the capacity to give monetary, marketing and/or impact support, and is not intended for the public or journalists, without the creator's permission.
We hope to turn this into an ongoing BFA project sharing endeavor, and once we can gather again, we will include a project pitch in future convenings of the BFA.

Reminder: Collaboration Panel at Elevate
and time change/correction

REMINDER - TOMORROW
COLLABORATION FOR CHANGE:
Collaboration between Brands and Foundations for Social Change through Media
July 30th at 12 pm PST/3pm EST (this is a time change/correction from the last email)
Zoom Info sent upon Request
This Group Discussion/Panel is a Private Invite-Only Event as part of the BrandStorytelling ELEVATE Summer Conference. The discussion is being sponsored by the Brand Foundation Alliance and is open to all BFA members and friends (if you're getting this email, that's you).
In the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, the Black Lives Matter protests and the #StopHateForProfit boycott - that have all opened many brands eyes to their need to take a stand, it's more apparent than ever that it takes a community to make a difference. It's time for brands to collaborate - with one another, and with the foundation community - to achieve greater impact through social issue films and media. At the same time, many brands are facing severe budget cuts, and foundation's have multiple crisis areas to address, meaning there should be even more willingness to collaborate to make budgets go further. What will it take to get brands and foundations to collaborate more? Are there good examples? In advance of the panel, you may want to read panel organizer, Brian Newman’s recent article on the need for more collaboration, where he gives some examples for comparison.
