Brand-Foundation Alliance

A collaboration between Brands and Foundations funding media for impact.

Save the Date: BFA at BrandStorytelling/Sundance

The Brand Foundation Alliance will be holding its Second Group Gathering during Brand Storytelling at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, January 25th from 11:00 am (MST) - 12:30pm (MST) at the Lodges at Deer Valley - the main venue for Brand Storytelling.

Representatives from leading Brands, Foundations, Agencies, Platforms, Production Companies and others interested in the intersection of film/media and impact will meet to discuss best practices; ways to collaborate; and what we'd like to see the BFA accomplish in 2020.

If you attended last year, you will receive a formal invitation in January, 2020. And if you are receiving this email, you will be on the invite list. If you'd like to be added to the guest list, please email Benjamin@Sub-Genre.com with your name and affiliation, and we will add you to the list. Note: attendance is limited to badge holders of Brand Storytelling and/or Sundance, and seating is limited to 30 guests, so please contact us early. We'll make every effort to accommodate all who want to attend. A full agenda will be sent in January, 2020.

What is the Brand Foundation Alliance?

Using the power of storytelling, the Brand-Foundation Alliance (BFA) combines the efforts of like-minded funder organizations and corporations to create impactful work that results in positive global change. BFA members meet to discuss best practices, share information on projects and celebrate the best work in the impact media space.

The Brand/Foundation Alliance began as a small gathering of like-minded foundations and brands who met at the Brand Storytelling Conference during Sundance, 2019. Brian Newman of Sub-Genre and Rick Parkhill of Brand Storytelling convened a small group of their colleagues to discuss the idea of collaborating on the funding or and support of films and new media projects. The group decided to form a steering committee and formal meeting group later in 2019.

The BFA had held three organizing meetings over the course of 2019, and will formally launch to new members in 2020. We plan to hold periodic working groups on best practices, share advice and information on new projects, and teach others about the importance of impact media for brands, foundations and society.

BFA will be hosting a panel at the Media Impact Funder's gathering at Sundance on January 24th. Paolo Mottola of REI and Sandy Herz of the Skoll Foundation will discuss the BFA, their interest in collaborations for impact in film, and best practices from their experience.

We are planning a one day conference in Mid-2020. The conference will focus on best practices in impact entertainment, with case studies, panels, networking and project sharing. Plans will be discussed at our January gathering.

We’re working on a shared database of projects, where members can share projects they are funding that may be open to other partnership and support, and we’ll be sending updates on member’s projects.

Our new website will go live in January - we will have a new website with member info, news and events. It launches in January, before Sundance.
